Kelly and Sterling fitness update
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Liverpool will stick with the original plan of getting recovering defender Martin Kelly ready for next season.
The 22-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Manchester United last September and Rodgers explained he will not appear again this season, despite progressing well on the comeback trail.
"Martin has been working very hard and making good progress," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.
"He is in between the training group and the rehab group. But there is no point in rushing him back at this stage of the season.
"There are no thoughts for Martin to play between now and the end of the season."
Kelly signed a new contract in February while on the sidelines and Rodgers believes the versatile defender will be a welcome addition back into the squad for next season.
"We just have to make sure we get him back fully fit and the objective was always to get him ready for pre-season. He's a player who did very well when he played at the start of the season.
"He has shown his talent and it will be a boost to have him back in the squad for next season."
Rodgers has adopted an equally cautious approach to fellow Academy graduate Raheem Sterling, but the winger could feature again in the final four games of the season after responding positively to treatment.
"It's only been a precaution with Raheem. With him being so young, we are protecting him," he added.
