BR: No immediate SG surgery plans
Brendan Rodgers insists there are no immediate plans for Steven Gerrard to undergo surgery.
Reports on Wednesday suggested the Liverpool captain could require a shoulder operation this summer, but the boss has played down those claims.
Rodgers told journalists at Melwood: "There's nothing in that at all, really. You'll have noticed over the last year or so, whether he's been playing for Liverpool or England, he's had some taping and strapping on his shoulder - but there is no immediate surgery planned.
"We're just going to see how it goes between now and the end of the season.
"He's dealt well with it and performed remarkably well, so there is no decision on it at all."
Rodgers also confirmed he has no fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday's trip to Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, the manager paid tribute to Gerrard after it was announced Liverpool will host a testimonial for the 32-year-old this summer.
The midfielder will be honoured by the Reds when Olympiacos come to Anfield on Saturday, August 3. All proceeds raised will go to charity.
"He thoroughly deserves it," said Rodgers. "He's been an incredible player for the football club and like the man that he is, he didn't want the testimonial to get in the way of our preparations.
"It's something that he will thoroughly deserve and should be a great day for him."
