Liverpool starlet Nathan Burke has spoken of his pride at being involved in the forthcoming three-peak challenge which Academy members will undertake in memory of Stephen Packer.

Stephen was a promising Liverpool U9 player, who sadly lost his brave battle with cancer in November 2012.

A huge Reds fan, he made a big impression on everyone he encountered at the Academy due to his happy nature and willingness to learn.

As a fitting tribute to the youngster, club representatives, including Burke and his U18s teammate Jordan Rossiter, will complete a demanding 25-mile hike on May 23.

Their plan is to raise vital funds for Alder Hey Children's hospital in Liverpool in memory of Stephen.

"I became involved with the challenge because it's for such an important cause," Burke told Liverpoolfc.com.

"We'd just love to get more sponsorship and we're asking people if they can chip in for our three-peak challenge.

"Stephen's passing was a tragic event and everyone at the club just wants to help out.

"I've never done anything like this before but I'm really looking forward to it. I haven't done any particular training for it, but we train here at the Academy every day. I'll be going to the gym when the event draws closer.

"Everyone should donate if possible because it's a great cause and it's important that we take part in the challenge."

In April this year, Steven Gerrard pledged his full support to the fundraiser.

"The club are never going to forget young Stephen and his family," said the skipper.

"Of course the club are going to be there as a support network for his family, moving forward - and so are the players. If there's anything we can do to support that, we're glad to help.

"It was very sad news that touched everyone's heart. We wish the Academy lads well with their project and if there's anything we can do to support it, we're available."
