Stevie: He'll be so hard to replace
Steven Gerrard admitted that he does not envy Brendan Rodgers the task of replacing Jamie Carragher after the defender competed in his 30th and final Merseyside derby on Sunday.
Carragher helped the Reds keep a 15th clean sheet of the campaign but Liverpool could not break the deadlock at the other end.
The 35-year-old now has just two games remaining of a career that has spanned 16 years - and Gerrard is thankful that he is not the one tasked with finding a replacement.
"Of course he's going to be missed," said the skipper. "You saw his display today. Since he's been back in the team he's probably been our most consistent player.
"I wouldn't like to be in Brendan Rodgers's position of trying to replace him."
On the stalemate with our closest rivals, Gerrard added: "Everton have improved a lot. They're a good team, difficult to beat. We'll take a point but we're slightly disappointed it wasn't three.
"That sums up our season, in a way. We've played well but haven't had that cutting edge against the sides above us."
Meanwhile, Carragher was asked if the club would be in safe hands after he retired.
"Oh, yes," he replied. "And when Stevie's gone, it'll still be in safe hands. There'll always be top players at this club who do well.
"We've both enjoyed our time and Stevie's probably got a few years left, but there'll be plenty more players who play for Liverpool."
Carragher admitted a feeling of slight disappointment at a result which leaves Liverpool five points behind their neighbours - but he felt a draw was fair.
"Probably Everton will be the happier team," said the former England international. "If you're playing away in a derby and don't lose, you're probably pleased with the result.
"We're slightly disappointed but it was probably a fair result. We'd all have loved to win, the Everton players would have said the same, but it wasn't to be. There weren't too many chances at either end, it was a tense derby.
"Credit to Everton. Coming to Anfield and getting a draw is a very good result."
Carragher was pushed during Sylvain Distin's disallowed goal in the second period - though the centre-back felt Victor Anichebe's shove on Pepe Reina was actually what prompted the referee to blow his whistle.
He said: "I felt a slight nudge in my back but I heard the whistle before [I was pushed]. I'd have to see it again, I'm not sure.
"There was Suarez's [disallowed goal] at Goodsion - and that never got mentioned before the game, did it?"
