Liverpool U21s went close to a memorable victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday evening; however, a late equaliser from the home side meant they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Jonjo Shelvey fired the Reds ahead with a beauty on six minutes, but moments later centre-back Stephen Sama was shown a straight red card for a foul on Ryan Tunnicliffe.
Alex Inglethorpe's side defended boldly for the remaining 83 minutes before they were stung by a late goal when James Wilson's side-footed attempt was deflected into the net by Jon Flanagan.
