Pepe Reina attributed some of his success at Liverpool to Jamie Carragher after the defender drew his memorable 17-year career to a close on Sunday.

The Reds custodian joined the growing number of people to heap praise on Carragher, insisting the 35-year-old has had a huge impact with the Reds and that his performances have consolidated his name in Anfield folklore for many years to come.

Reina declared: "He's been a legend for this club and forever will be. We owe him so much and I just want to say it's been a pleasure for me to play alongside him. He's been a tremendous, colossal player in front of me and made my life much easier. I will always owe him a little bit of my success at Liverpool."

The Spaniard admitted his absence will certainly be noticed both on and off the pitch. He believes Carragher is a rare type of player that possesses admirable traits which Liverpool will sorely miss.

"It will be a quieter dressing room, that's for sure," Reina added. "He's a winner and a great competitor. We will miss him a lot because he's one of a kind, it's time for him to go and he can be so proud of what he's done and what he's achieved in his career."

Looking ahead to life without Carragher, Reina is hoping for the Reds to push on after an encouraging last few months of this campaign as Liverpool aim to secure a Champions League place next season.

The goalkeeper concluded: "I think we're building. We've been improving a little bit, especially in the second part of the season. We have to keep that in mind and build on that second half. I think we are not far away from the top four spots and hopefully we'll only be better next season."
