Anfield stages Liverpool Cup final
Eight schools including nearly 100 boys and girls contested the final stage of the Liverpool Cup at Anfield Monday night in the 35th year of the tournament.
Forefield junior school's boys were crowned champions of their respective competition, while Somerville primary school's girls were also proud winners.
Former Liverpool defender Ronnie Moran was joined by Reds Academy starlets Jordan Lussey and Daniel Trickett-Smith - along with Ladies players Sophia Riccio and Danielle Gibbons - in presenting medals to the victors, as well as posing for photos with the participating teams.
Speaking after events last night, Liverpool Cup secretary Steve Sass lauded the importance of the competition for local youngsters, insisting that the tournament has been a success yet again.
Sass declared: "Tonight has been a great experience for these kids to get the unique opportunity to play at Anfield.
"The Liverpool Cup was created in 1978 for school children across Merseyside and this year over 2,500 boys and 1,100 girls participated in the tournament. Once again, it has been a fantastic evening and we look forward to another great competition next year."
All proceeds raised from the Liverpool Cup are being re-distributed back to schools throughout Merseyside to provide more sporting opportunities for local children.
