Barnes: That goal was just incredible
Luis Suarez's stunning goal against Newcastle United is the moment from 2012-13 which will live long in the memory of former Liverpool winger John Barnes.
The ex-England international believes that some of the leading players in the world could not replicate such amazing control under pressure before finding the net as the Uruguayan did against the Magpies last November.
When asked for his favourite goal of the season, Barnes swiftly replied: "Luis Suarez against Newcastle.
"I don't think there's another player in the world that could have scored that goal. I don't think [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Robin] van Persie or anyone could score it.
"The pace he was running at, to control the ball and then to change pace, to relax, to calm down and slow down, to not run out or kick the ball out of play on his second touch and put it in was just incredible."
The man who made 407 Liverpool appearances also argued that the Reds have been playing the finest football in the country when they have been performing at their best recently.
But Barnes feels that Brendan Rodgers' side need to accompany such pleasing displays with an occasional 'ugly' style of play in a bid to win the tougher matches.
He added: "When Liverpool have played at their best, they've been playing better than any other team in the country.
"But more importantly, they need to be able to play ugly and win - that's the sign of champions.
"You want to get that consistency, but there are times when you're not going to be consistent in terms of your performance and you may need to get the result."
