Henderson: It will still be an honour
Jordan Henderson has vowed to bow out with a strong performance when England play their final game of the European U21 Championships against Israel on Tuesday.
Henderson was powerless to prevent his side from slipping to a 3-1 defeat against Norway on Saturday evening.
The result came on the back of a narrow 1-0 loss to Fabio Borini's Italy - and consigned Stuart Pearce's side to elimination with a game to spare in the group stage.
The Young Lions will now face hosts Israel before their tournament comes to a close, and Henderson insists it will still be an honour to captain the side.
"It's hard when you get knocked out of the tournament and you've still got a game left," he told FATV.
"But you're still putting that England shirt on, you're still representing your country, which is a massive honour.
"You've got to go out there and do it for your country."
England were undone when Fredrik Semb Berge and Jo Inge Berget both fired in the opening 45 minutes to put Norway firmly in control on Saturday.
Magnus Eikrem's unstoppable effort made it 3-0 before Craig Dawson snatched a consolation goal for the Young Lions.
Henderson reflected: "It was frustrating. I felt as though the first 20 minutes we were dominating the game, we had a lot of the ball, a couple of chances, but we conceded a bad goal at a bad time and it just deflated us a little bit.
"But I still felt we dominated possession of the ball, we just weren't good enough in the final third.
"We've defended brilliantly over the last two years, throughout the whole campaign. [Against Norway] it wasn't just the defence, the whole team didn't defend as we have done.
"I still felt we pressed the ball high up the pitch and got it back early, but we're just devastated."
