Rush: Striker can bring exciting times
Ian Rush knows a thing or two about scoring goals - and he thinks the 'absolutely incredible' start to life at Anfield by Daniel Sturridge is only the beginning of things to come from the England man.
Sturridge fired 11 goals in just 16 games following his January move to L4 and Rush is a big fan of the No.15.
"Sturridge can get even better without a doubt," said the Welshman, our all-time top goalscorer with 346.
"He's got some great skill and with a good pre-season I think you will see an even better Sturridge next season.
"He needs to get fully fit. He was absolutely incredible in some of the games. He has got a good football brain, Coutinho has as well - some of the passes he put through were absolutely superb.
"When you've got the likes of Coutinho, Sturridge, Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and people like that you have got four or five people who can win your games when previously we only had one or two.
"Sturridge has had a couple of little injuries but if he can get fully fit and get through the pre-season then I think there are exciting times ahead.
"We know we can keep clean sheets. We are an attacking team who do create a lot of chances but it's all about putting them away.
"I'm looking forward to the new season. You look at the other teams like Manchester United with the manager gone so if we can get off to a good start, I think there are exciting times ahead."
The Welsh legend was speaking after signing copies of his brilliant newly-released book 'Ian Rush: My Scrapbook' at the club's L1 store.
His father Francis first started a modest scrapbook comprising local newspaper cuttings of his son's footballing achievements in the early 1970s - and little did he realise what it would lead to.
Rush went on to become one of the world's greatest strikers and his amazing 346-goal tally for Liverpool will arguably never be surpassed.
Now, Rush has unearthed his father's original scrapbook and dusted down his many other prized personal treasures, many of which are being revealed for the first time.
He said: "It's always great to meet the fans. I've got my scrapbook out which brings back some great memories and it's nice to see so many people coming to buy it.
"It was great to bring back some old photos and relive some great memories from winning the European Cup, the FA Cup etc, and I'm so happy I did it."
