The recently retired Jamie Carragher leads a wealth of household names arriving in Portugal on Tuesday to participate in the biannual Steven Gerrard Foundation charity golf event.

A total of 27 teams, featuring players from the worlds of entertainment and football, will compete for the trophy over 18 holes on the Laranjal course at the Quinta do Lago resort in the Algarve.

To kick-start a period of celebration and fundraising ahead of his testimonial at Anfield in August, Gerrard and his foundation are currently in the Iberian country to host the occasion.

Once the day's sporting exertions are concluded, a gala dinner will be held in an attempt to raise money for the vulnerable children and young people supported by the 33-year-old's charity work.

Although the Liverpool skipper will not be in action when the tournament takes place on Wednesday, June 26, his friend and former Anfield teammate Carragher will be joined by a host of familiar faces.

Australian star Harry Kewell will captain a team which also contains former Reds youth coach Dave Shannon, while World Cup-winning rugby player Ben Kay will take charge of another four-man outfit.

Former Liverpool midfielders Charlie Adam and Gary McAllister will be swapping football boots for golfing bags; how will they fare against John Aldridge, Neil Mellor and Scott Parker, among others?

Expect some Barclays Premier League rivalry to filter through to a different sport too, with Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott fielding a team featuring club colleague Gareth Barry.

LFC TV will be in attendance from the very first tee-off at 8.40am to find out who triumphs and who ends up in a bunker - stay logged on to Liverpoolfc.com in the coming days for all of the details.
