Rodgers: City's loss is our gain
Brendan Rodgers believes Manchester City's loss will be Liverpool's gain in 2013-14 as Kolo Toure looks to add a final chapter to his glittering career.
At 32, Toure is the oldest recruit since Rodgers took over at Anfield last summer - but having watched the Ivorian perform for City last season, the boss is confident he still has what it takes to perform at the highest level.
"I saw him play a lot of games last year," Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com.
"I saw him play at Aston Villa and in a lot of other games and I thought he was Manchester City's best player."
Toure has won three FA Cup's and two league titles since Arsene Wenger brought him into English football 11 years ago - and his CV makes him one of the few credible candidates to fill the hole left by Jamie Carragher.
"Losing someone like Jamie Carragher was going to leave a massive hole for us in terms of his experience," added Rodgers.
"Kolo's experience is going to be really important for us - but not just that. He's someone with a winning mentality.
"There weren't too many available who were better than Kolo Toure. He's played with big clubs, he understands what a winning mentality is about.
"He's a good man as well - he knows what the culture is like at a big club."
