ASCC recognised with special award
Anfield Sports and Community College (ASCC) has won a special award for its contributions to national inner-city cricket at the StreetChance annual achievement awards at Lords cricket ground.
StreetChance, an inner-city initiative run in partnership by the Cricket Foundation and Barclays Spaces for Sports, was launched at the ASCC last October by two LFC former players, Dietmar Hamann and Nick Barmby.
The scheme aims to divert young people away from youth crime and anti-social behaviour through free, year-round cricket sessions.
Michelle Taylor, community sports inclusion officer at the ASCC, said: "We were thrilled to be presented with the StreetChance special recognition award.
"It's a fantastic project which has allowed us to introduce a new sport to young people in the community.
"The kids involved have also had the opportunity to meet other young people from different cultures and visit new cities around the country to participate in half-term competitions.
"We're really looking forward to the next year of delivering StreetChance."
The Liverpool FC Foundation has a long-standing relationship with the ASCC and currently runs various programmes at the centre, including Equality 4 All, Kickz and its Young Warriors programme.
Mark Haig, the Foundation's head of operations, said: "This is fantastic recognition for the Anfield Sports and Community College, who work tirelessly to improve opportunities for children and adults in our community.
"Our Foundation has a long-standing relationship with ASCC, delivering a number of key projects within the centre, so we are delighted they have been nationally acknowledged for the great work they do."
