President's son meets Steven Gerrard
Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, son of the Indonesian president, tonight described watching Liverpool's first ever game in Jakarta as a dream come true.
The President's son is famous for his passion for the Reds and after joining over 70,000 fans to watch the game, he met Steven Gerarrd to congratulate the captain on his team's 2-nil victory.
"It felt great to be here," he told the club's official Indonesian website, Indonesia.Liverpoolfc.com, in an exclusive interview. "It's a great honour for Indonesia to host Liverpool FC in our country and especially for me because I've been a really big fan of the club since I was a little boy. This is a dream come true for me to watch the team play in person. I've grown up watching Liverpool play on television so to be here tonight was amazing.
"The atmosphere was incredible - it was like what we see on TV at Anfield. The Liverpool fans here in Indonesia adore their heroes and I think that was evident tonight. Just for Liverpool to visit Indonesia is really a big event. The club have got millions of fans all over Asia so for Indonesia to be selected as the country to start the summer tour means a lot to us.
"It's not just important for the fans either - for the Indonesian national players, what a honour to play on a pitch against a team like Liverpool and players like Steven Gerrard. We hope Liverpool come back to Indonesia again because as the players will have seen, we all really love this club.
"I've loved Liverpool since the very first time I saw a football match. The team playing that day was Liverpool and, in that moment, I knew my heart belonged to them. Ever since then, I am proud to call myself a Liverpool supporter. I grew up idolising Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, John Barnes and Steve McManaman and now my favourite player is Gerrard. To meet three of my heroes tonight just made the occasion even more special. I'll never forget it."
