Jordan Henderson has been louder than usual since returning for pre-season training – and that's because he's keen to help the blossoming young talent in the Liverpool squad settle into the swing of things.

Henderson may only be 23; however, the midfielder has already racked up 92 appearances in a red shirt since arriving at the club in the summer of 2011.

And now he wants to help the emerging stars in Brendan Rodgers' set-up - like 17-year-old Jordon Ibe - grow into first-team players of the future.

"There are a lot of younger lads who have come into the team and I'm not quite as young as I once was," Henderson told Liverpoolfc.com.

"So I've just got to maybe help some of the younger lads coming through into the team and get them to feel as comfortable as they can.

"I think it is a big season for the club and for me on a personal level as well, but it's one that I look forward to.

"I think we've just got to keep improving all the time - and try and start the season off really well and build some momentum up from the start. I'm sure that will take us through the season and we'll finish successfully.

"I think we're definitely up for the challenge - and we're looking forward to it. The manager came in last year and I think we improved over the season. We finished well, so we'll look to pick up where we left off with that and hopefully we can build some momentum.

"For me, I've just got to keep improving as a player and keep learning from everybody around me and try and pick up where I left off at the end of last season."

The Reds played the first game of their pre-season tour against an Indonesia XI on Saturday, when goals from Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling helped them to a 2-0 win.

In the days building up to the game, the Liverpool players had been put through rigorous training sessions in 30-degree heat in Jakarta.

While the work proved demanding, Henderson insists he's enjoyed the challenge of getting back in shape for the new season.

"I'm coping fine to be honest," he said. "The most important thing while we're here is the sleep - everyone is trying to get into this pattern over here.

"The training has been really good. There's a good intensity here. I don't mind pre-season. I think it's a good time for all the players to get together and look forward to the new season and know what is excepted of them come the first day of the season."
