Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that Brad Jones will recover from injury in time to play in front of his home crowd on Wednesday night.

The Australian missed our 2-0 win over an Indonesia XI on Saturday with a knock but could feature against Melbourne Victory.

Rodgers said: "Brad had a little knock going into the game the other night so didn't get the chance to play but we're very hopeful that he'll have a good run out in the game. The club are just going to assess that over the next couple of days."

In a press conference on day one of Liverpool's first ever visit to Australia, Rodgers was asked to comment on the fact Liverpool would play in front of 95,000 supporters at the MCG, compared with Manchester United's crowd of 83,000 in Sydney.

"Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world - it's certainly the world's biggest football family," said the boss.

"The crowd we attracted for the game in Indonesia was over 80,000. We always pack the crowds wherever we go.

"Our history speaks for itself. The status of this football club is there for everyone to see.

"We're in the middle of a period of coming back and the measure for us will always be the Champions League - that's what the club has been built on.

"The welcome we got at the airport was incredible and shows you the passion for football out here.

"You can imagine what near-on 100,000 in a stadium [will be like].

"We're very honoured to be playing at such an iconic sporting venue - it's renowned throughout the world of sport.

"It's very humbling as a manager when you travel so far away from home, yet you arrive in places like Jakarta and Melbourne and you actually feel like you're at home.

"I'm really looking forward to being here in the city - Melbourne is a wonderful city."
