Mignolet: I still remember that goal
Simon Mignolet cannot wait to run out at Anfield for Steven Gerrard's testimonial – if only to banish memories of his first outing in front of the Kop, in September 2010, on a day which became shrouded in controversy.
The Belgian was beaten under bizarre circumstances when Michael Turner was ruled to have taken a free-kick and Dirk Kuyt slotted home from a Fernando Torres pass.
Mignolet, who is currently preparing for the Reds' final friendly of their summer tour against Thailand in Bangkok on Sunday, is eager for no such slip-ups when the big day comes around in a week's time.
"I still remember that goal - very much so," he told LFC TV. "I still can't understand how it was given. But then again that's behind me now and I'll look forward to playing my first game at Anfield as a Liverpool player next week.
"Steven's testimonial will be my debut at Anfield as the home team goalie, but first we have to play a game here in Thailand, so let's make sure we're focused on that and then we'll look to [the testimonial]."
Mignolet traded Wearside for Merseyside last month - and he has featured in all three of the Reds' pre-season friendlies to date.
He's currently revelling in the incredible reception that has greeted Brendan Rodgers and the Liverpool squad on each leg of their summer tour to Indonesia, Australia and Thailand.

Mignolet insists the trip has also allowed him to get to know his teammates, who have gone to great lengths to make him feel comfortable at the club.
"It's amazing how much support we get over here," he said. "I wasn't expecting anything like what we've seen over the last two weeks. So hopefully it can be the same at the game this weekend. It's been great for me to see how much support we get in this part of the world.
"We're enjoying every single moment we have here and in every single training session, we try to do our best and get our fitness levels up. That's what we're here for.
"We have to stay focused and work hard because there's a season ahead of us and we have to make sure we prepare to start it well. So everybody is training hard and everybody is doing their best to make sure that we are ready for when the first game of the season arrives.
"It's been a really good experience coming out to Asia and then Australia because during the time here, I have spent a lot of time with the lads. I feel very welcome and I'm happy with the way things are going.
"We did alright in the last two games, so let's hope that we can finish it off now with a result in the last game."
Mignolet, naturally, has spent more time in training with the two other 'keepers who have travelled on the summer tour, Brad Jones and Danny Ward, as well as goalkeeping coach John Achterberg.
The 25-year-old insists the quartet have formed a tight-knit group, in which each member is fully supportive of one another.
"We mostly speak English out on the pitch, together with the other goalies and we work together as a team - all three goalkeepers," he said. "That's always been the case with me in my career. I tend to speak a lot with the other goalies and we work together as one unit. It's always been that way."
