It was a frustrating evening for Liverpool Ladies as they went down 3-0 to Arsenal at the Halton Stadium on Saturday night.

Matt Beard's side resumed the Women's Super League programme leading the table on goal difference from Bristol Academy, but the manager had warned his team pre-match that the reigning champions Arsenal were still the team to beat.

Back in May the ladies beat the Gunners 4-0 at the Emirates, but the Londoners were all out for revenge in the return game.

Liverpool actually made a bright start with Natasha Dowie and Nicole Rolser both going close, before Jordan Nobbs pounced for the opening goal.

Alex Scott made it 2-0 before the break and the Reds then had a golden chance on 65 minutes to make a real game of it, but Dowie missed a penalty.

A wonder strike from Nobbs after 74 minutes made sure of the three points and the result means Arsenal are now five points behind the Reds with a game in hand.
