'Scouser' Peterson eyes Reds' rivals
Liverpool's Swedish starlet Kristoffer Peterson cannot wait to get stuck into Manchester United and Everton this season - and insists he's become something of a Scouser since joining the club two years ago.
Changes to the format of this year's Barclays Premier U21 League means the Reds will now face their two fiercest rivals - something the youngsters missed out on last year.
Peterson, who has made a flying start to pre-season, netting against Glentoran and Hearts, is up for the battle.
Asked if he knew about the intensity of the clashes against United and the Blues, he replied: "I have noticed how much it means to the fans. I have become a bit of a Scouser so these games are big for me as well.
"It's a very good atmosphere in the team at the moment - I've never really been in a team with a group so good and enjoying it so much.
"When I wake up every morning I am looking forward to going to training because it's so much fun and when the spirit is like that I think we can create some good things this season."
Alex Inglethorpe's side kick off their campaign with a clash against Southampton at the Academy on Monday, in a game you can watch exclusively live on LFC TV.
Peterson is keen for a flying start as he looks to continue to develop in what could be an exciting season for the youngster.
"Southampton are a good side, who like to play football like us, but we just need to be ready and we are definitely going for three points," he said.
"We had some good competition in the pre-season and we just can't wait for the season to start. I have been working hard all pre-season, it's been good for me and especially the team as well, we have played well against tough competition.
"But my aim is to keep working hard and see what comes. My eventual aim is to get into the first team and get a squad number. If my aim is not that then there is no point me doing this.
"I'm just going to keep working hard and hopefully success will come with time."
