Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen insists Reds fans have 'a lot to look forward to'.

The 33-year-old, who notched 158 goals for the club during a seven-year period in the Anfield first team, retired at the conclusion of the 2012-13 campaign.

Like his good friend and one-time teammate Jamie Carragher, the Englishman is now entering the world of punditry for the new season.

With the action set to kick off when the Reds welcome Stoke City to Merseyside on Saturday lunchtime, Owen claimed Liverpool supporters have plenty to anticipate.

"The players they have brought in have shaped up pretty well," he told talkSPORT.

"Coutinho came last year but he has been a revelation. I have watched him live three times this pre-season and I've been impressed every time I've watched him.

"Aspas has come in and he has settled well, Sturridge is going to be back - there's a lot to look forward to if you're a Liverpool fan."
