Colin Pascoe believes the deadline day additions of Mamadou Sakho, Victor Moses and Tiago Ilori will make Liverpool a stronger force to be reckoned with for the remainder of the season.

Brendan Rodgers strengthened his squad with eight new signings over the summer, and the Reds have made a blistering start to the campaign with three straight wins in the Barclays Premier League.

While no-one at the club is getting carried away by the opening three games, confidence is high within the camp - and Pascoe insists the new boys will only serve to strengthen the team.

"The scouting department have worked long and hard to get these signings into the club," Pascoe told Liverpoolfc.com.

"These lads bring strength, they bring power and pace and they bring competition to the squad, which is always important."

Pascoe also welcomed the return to fitness of Martin Skrtel, who gave a man-of-the-match display during the victory over Manchester United.

He reflected: "Martin was excellent. He hasn't played many games but to come in and play the way he did against Manchester United was superb."

International breaks now regularly see Alex Inglethorpe take his U21 squad to Melwood to take part in the training sessions and practice games.

For the likes of 16-year-old Jordan Rossiter and Jack Dunn, it represents an invaluable opportunity for them to train alongside the likes of Lucas and Philippe Coutinho.

"We bring the young kids in from the U21 squad to make the numbers up and train with the lads who are not on international duty," said Pascoe.

"It is fantastic for them to experience Melwood and they can learn so much training with the senior players."

Liverpool resume action with a trip to Pascoe's old haunt Swansea City on Monday.

The Reds have an extra couple of days to prepare for the game after the international break, so does Pascoe believe that will give them an advantage over their rivals?

He added: "You can look at that with us having an extra couple of days but once the boys are back we'll assess them and see if it does benefit us.

"Swansea will be a tough game. All games in the Premier League are and none more so than at the Liberty Stadium.

"They are a good team and they pass the ball well. They can hurt you on the counter attack as well so we will have to be careful.

"For us we just want to continue how we've started. We've made a great start, we've got to keep up our standards and maintain that."
