Steven Gerrard is aiming to use all his international experience to inspire England to a crucial win over Ukraine in Tuesday night's key qualifier in Kiev.

The Three Lions are set to make history in the game, after Roy Hodgson confirmed there will be three players in the side, including Gerrard, who have 100 caps or more under their belt.

Frank Lampard will make his 100th appearance on the night, while centurion Ashley Cole is also expected to start.

Gerrard believes the trio can lead by example and help England maintain their position at the top of qualifying Group H.

"We're trying to use our experience and it's going to be our last crack at doing well at a World Cup," Gerrard told reporters.

"Hopefully that's infectious for the group and the young lads can see us and how much we want it and feed off that.

"I think it's going to be a fantastic occasion for Frank. I'm absolutely delighted for him that he will get the 100 caps.

"Ashley and I have done that recently and we're going to move onto the same number as the legendary Billy Wright.

"So it's going to be a special occasion all-round, but we all want to remember it for the right result. I lost on my 100th appearance, so hopefully it will be different for Frank and he can go away with fond memories."

England will be without Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge for the game.

Gerrard, who will captain the side, was quizzed about the lack of options going forward, and in particular the absence of Rooney.

"We'll have to wait and see [how it affects our performance]," said Gerrard. "Wayne is a world-class player and we'll miss him when he's not available.

"But I think we've got more than enough in the squad and in the XI to do the job out here. As the manager says, confidence is high in the group.

"We believe that if we defend well tomorrow night, we've got a great chance of getting the result we want."
