It would be difficult to envisage a more perfect start to a goalkeeper's career at any club than the one Simon Mignolet has enjoyed since joining Liverpool during the summer.

Having shipped a single goal in pre-season, the Belgian international has recorded three consecutive clean sheets as the Reds claimed top spot in the Barclays Premier League before the international break.

Ask the 25-year-old for his verdict, however, and the stopper - ever eager to improve on aspects of his game - argues that you can only judge a 'keeper on his most recent performance.

"I've always said that, as a goalkeeper, the last game you played is the most important one - everybody will look back on that one," Mignolet told Liverpoolfc.com.

"If that one was a good one, you have to look forward and make sure the next one is the same as the one before. I take every game as it comes and try to do my best.

"I just want to play my own game and do well from my perspective. I know when you're 25 years old, there's always room for improvement and you can become better.

"That's what I focus myself on, trying really hard. I know what my strengths and weaknesses are; I try to develop my weaknesses as much as I can and work on my strengths as well every single day.

"When you go to a new club there are always different styles of play and different managers want different things. Also, when you join a new goalkeeping coach he looks to change a couple of things.

"So that's not different to anywhere else. It can only help my game and only make sure that I'm progressing as a goalkeeper."

In discussing his new 'keeper, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly referenced the No.22's 'hunger' to prove himself between the posts.

"I suppose that he thinks that I'm willing to work hard and willing to progress every single day in training," Mignolet reflected.

"That's what I try to do myself; when I come into the dressing room and step onto the pitch, I want to do well.

"I just want to do my best and make sure I get as much out of every single training session as I can."

The former Sunderland man was the third player to seal a transfer to Liverpool earlier this summer, and five more new faces followed - including a trio of signings on deadline day.

Mignolet believes a deep squad can facilitate the Reds' challenge on several fronts during 2013-14.

He said: "Everybody is very professional and everybody is trying to do their best every single day in training.

"The attitude has been tremendous and it's a joy to train and be inside a dressing room like that.

"We want to keep going like that, train hard every day and make sure we're ready for the games we're going to play, trying to do well in the league and also in the other cups.

"We've got a very wide squad at the moment - a lot of good players, a mix of young and experienced players who are ready to play if someone gets injured or a suspension.

"There is always someone else who is ready and willing to play. Everybody is trying hard and working hard on the training ground; obviously that helps when you go out onto the pitch and play games."
