Daniel Sturridge could not hide his disappointment after Liverpool drew 2-2 with Swansea - but insisted the Reds must now pick themselves up and focus on the next game against Southampton.

Sturridge scored his fourth league goal of the season when he steered Jonjo Shelvey's back-pass beyond Michel Vorm to equalise in the third minute on Monday night.

Victor Moses then netted on his debut to edge Liverpool in front; however, Michu levelled the scores in the 64th minute to seal a point for the home side.

Sturridge told Sky Sports: "I think in the end we are a little bit disappointed because we were winning the game.

"And when you're in control of the game and then you concede a goal, it's a disappointment.

"But I think we showed character not to lose the game and we almost won it at the end as well.

"We're disappointed, but at the same time we're back to the top of the league and we'll push on to the next game."

Liverpool were the better side during the first half at the Liberty Stadium when, after falling behind to an early Shelvey goal, Brendan Rodgers' men struck twice to take a lead into the interval.

However, Swansea came back strong in the second half and the Reds were forced to defend throughout the closing exchanges to secure a point.

"We played some good football and we were probing well and moving the ball around," reflected Sturridge.

"It's just one of those things. We went into the second half and started playing good football again but they came back into it a little bit.

"Then they get a goal and it puts you on the back-foot and then Philippe [Coutinho] gets an injury and it's not a good thing for us.

"But we'll push on to next week now and we showed character, so it's important for us to keep pushing on."

Sturridge demonstrated both instinct and composure to level the scores early on.

The striker was alert inside the penalty area to latch onto Shelvey's loose ball and finish smartly past Vorm.

"I just anticipated the fact that [Shelvey] would probably knock the ball back," explained Sturridge. "Sometimes it works for you, sometimes it doesn't.

"This time, for me, I was lucky enough that he passed it back and I was there to take advantage.

"I just think that I was there at the right time and I took advantage. It's not really about me though; I'm disappointed with the result in the end."

The 24-year-old was also quizzed about his fitness after the game, and he replied: "To be honest, I don't feel fit.

"I trained for the first time with the team on Friday after the England trip. I was disappointed to not be there because it was a big opportunity for me and hopefully I'll be okay and selected to play in the next one, if the manager thinks I'm good enough."
