They say practice makes perfect; for Liverpool and Victor Moses on Monday night, the phrase certainly rang true.

The 22-year-old forward marked his Reds debut with a perfectly executed goal nine minutes before half-time as his new club reclaimed first place with a 2-2 draw at Swansea.

Brendan Rodgers had selected the Nigeria international at the earliest opportunity for the Barclays Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium after making Moses his final signing of the summer.

The manager later revealed that the forward's counter-attacking conversion had been borne out of preparation on the training pitches at Melwood.

"He had a couple of moments where you could see why we brought him in," Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com.

"He can take players on. He's got a wee bit to go yet to get up to speed with the intensity; but his goal was terrific.

"We did a bit of work in the week on counter-attacks - we felt there would be moments in the game here when you're not going to have the ball, but when you do get the ball can you flood forward?

"When we intercepted the pass he broke forward and it was an excellent finish. He is a really good player.

"Young Sakho came in as well and was excellent for his first game having only trained for a couple of weeks.

"There are many positives; you always wish to win the game if you can but it's important you don't lose it."

Asked for his analysis of proceedings in Wales, Rodgers observed two sides to his team - an hour of appealing football followed by a period of necessary resilience.

The Northern Irishman added: "I thought that for the first 65 minutes we were outstanding; we played some very good football and went in front.

"When young Coutinho went off, we sort of lost our flow in the game a little bit. Then we conceded the second goal.

"In the last 25 minutes of the game then, you're having to dig in - they have got a little bit of momentum in the game having got the goal.

"Overall, I was delighted with the resilience and character of the team. It's another point. I know better than anyone how difficult a place this is to come, especially when the crowd get up in the last 20-25 minutes.

"I can only give credit to the players, how they kept going was great. It's a point that takes us back to the top again early on."
