Iago Aspas predicts an 'explosive reaction' will greet his first competitive goal for Liverpool after revealing he's striving to demonstrate exactly why Brendan Rodgers brought him to Anfield this summer.

The Spanish forward arrived from Celta Vigo in June and has featured in all four of the Reds' Barclays Premier League fixtures so far this season.

Aspas struck four times in pre-season for his new club, but has yet to find the back of the net in a competitive outing - and he admits he's determined to end that statistic.

Asked by Liverpoolfc.com what he'll do when he notches his first goal for the Reds, he replied: "I think it will be a really explosive reaction as over the last four or five seasons I probably haven't gone as many games as this without a goal.

"I've never been an out-and-out goal scorer, but it's true that over the last three seasons I have scored quite a number of goals but my being on target isn't so important as long as the team is winning and stays at the top of the table.

"I suppose on a personal level I'm not as entirely happy as I would want to be because I still feel that I can do a lot better, but I'm working hard every day to try and improve and be able show that on the pitch to my teammates."

Despite his resolve to hit the back of the net, Aspas isn't setting himself any personal aims other than to do all he can to help Liverpool in their pursuit of success.

"I've not set myself a goals target," the 26-year-old continued. "What I have done is aimed at playing as many games as possible and to try and help the team to get into the top four, which I think is the most important thing for us.

"It's all about focusing on the group as a whole in order to qualify for the Champions League.

"It's not that easy coming here from the Spanish league but I've only had a short period to settle in. As I said before I'm working hard in training and in the gym to try and improve in all those areas."

One man who is enjoying a fine run of form in front of goal is Daniel Sturridge.

The striker has netted in every Liverpool game so far this season and Aspas believes playing and training with the likes of the England international, as well as his other attacking teammates, will only serve to help improve him.

He said: "I think he [Sturridge] is a top player and he's proving that every game he plays in. I think he can get even better than he is performing now as I have admired him in every training session since I arrived here.

"I'm constantly improving because playing here alongside these fantastic teammates of mine, it means that you improve from day-to-day and game-to-game."

Meanwhile, Aspas has revealed how his first experience of the Anfield atmosphere left a lasting impression upon him.

"When you hear the crowd start to sing the anthem, it makes the hairs on your neck stand up," he stated.

"Of course as you get more involved and concentrated on the game you become a little more distanced from what is going on in the stands."

Though settling in well to life on Merseyside, there's still one aspect of Liverpool life Aspas is still getting to grips with - the Scouse accent.

"To tell you the truth I don't understand a great deal yet," he smiled. "I get bits of almost everything and I understand the gist of what they're saying but here people want to win.

"This is a club used to being amongst the best in the world and that's the only thing that counts for them."
