'We can put things right on Wednesday'
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet insists that his team can make amends for their 1-0 defeat by Southampton on Saturday by 'putting things right' when they travel to Manchester United next week.
The Reds' five-match unbeaten opening to the 2013-14 campaign was brought to an abrupt halt yesterday, with Dejan Lovren's goal handing the visiting Saints all three points at Anfield.
Mignolet and co will not have to wait long for an opportunity to taste victory once more, though, with a tantalising Capital One Cup clash against rivals United on the schedule for Wednesday.
"We wanted to win the game, especially when you play at home at Anfield against Southampton you want to get three points," the Belgian told Liverpoolfc.com.
"They came here, blocked us off and were really organised - which made it difficult for us to play and create chances. If you then concede in the second half, it's a disappointment.
"We've got another game on Wednesday, when we can put things right straight away; I think it's a perfect scenario to get back to it. We have a decent game to look forward to and everybody can put things right.
"Sometimes you have a disappointing result, but then you have to make sure the result and performance afterwards is back on top."
With injury sidelining Glen Johnson, vice-captain Daniel Agger carrying a knock and full-back Jose Enrique benched as a precaution, Brendan Rodgers was forced to alter his defence.
But Mignolet downplayed suggestions that regular changes to the backline in front of him were a significant factor in the side's unexpected blip against Southampton.
The 25-year-old continued: "We have a wide enough squad to deal with injuries and suspensions. Everybody can look back on their performance, and take the positives and negatives out of it.
"That's how it goes in the dressing room - we all have to look at ourselves. We have a game on Wednesday to put things right and I'm sure everybody will be up for it again.
"We have very strong individuals in the dressing room; I'm sure everybody will be back in training and looking forward to the game against Manchester United."
Having now fully served a 10-game suspension, Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez is eligible for selection again and our No.22 believes his return can provide an instant boost.
"Every single competitive game we play is important. We want to go out and win every game," the 'keeper concluded.
"Today we didn't manage to do that but we've got another opportunity on Wednesday and it's a big game as well.
"Luis Suarez is coming back, which can maybe give us a lift. So we've got positives to look forward to."
