Four of the Reds' 215 games in this competition have come against Manchester United, with Liverpool winning three.

Liverpool won the finals of 1983 (2-1 at Wembley) and 2003 (2-0 at Cardiff) and a fourth-round tie at Anfield in 1985 (2-1).

The only previous meeting at Old Trafford saw United win 3-1 in the third round in 1990, with Ray Houghton scoring the Reds' goal.

The Reds have met United six times at Old Trafford in cup competition and have won only once - a 1921 FA Cup replay 2-1.

Liverpool have scored in 47 of their last 48 League Cup games - only failing to hit the net during that time at Chelsea in December 2007.

Liverpool have won the League Cup more than any other club (eight times), three more than Aston Villa.

The Reds have played in six penalty shoot-outs in the League Cup, losing twice - to Wimbledon in 1993 and Northampton at Anfield in 2010.

In major competitive games the Reds have only lost two of 13 shoot-outs.

The Reds reached this stage by overcoming Notts County 4-2 after extra-time. Daniel Sturridge scored twice, with Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson also on target.

In scoring, Sturridge became only the fourth Reds player to score on his debut in the league, League Cup and FA Cup - following Kenny Dalglish, Michael Owen and Luis Suarez.

The last Liverpool hat-trick against United was scored by Dirk Kuyt at Anfield in March 2011.

The last Liverpool player to score a hat-trick at Old Trafford was Fred Howe in November 1936.

Fernando Torres is the last Liverpool player to score a League Cup hat-trick, doing so at Reading six years ago tonight.

The Reds have lost just one of their last eight away games in the League Cup - at Arsenal in 2009.

They have won each of their last six away from home in this competition, including victories at Manchester City, Chelsea and West Brom.

If they win tonight it will be their longest ever run of consecutive away victories in a domestic competition. They won six in a row in the FA Cup (1963-65) and also between 1988 and 1989.

Martin Kelly's only Liverpool goal so far came in the League Cup at Chelsea in November 2011.

Luis Suarez is now available to play; he has scored in one of his last five appearances for the Reds but has netted 17 goals in his last 21 Liverpool games.

The biggest attendance Liverpool have played in front of outside of a final in this competition was the 60,004 who witnessed their tie at Arsenal in October 2009.

Last season, United were knocked out of the League Cup by Chelsea in the fourth round. Sturridge was among the scorers in the 5-4 win for the Londoners, while Victor Moses also played.

David Moyes has won four times in 26 games against Liverpool as a manager but in cup competition he has a victory, a draw and a defeat - all in the FA Cup.

United were beaten five times at Old Trafford last season - to Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea in the league and Cluj and Real Madrid in Europe.

United have conceded six goals in their last two games.
