Boss: We are going for the victory
Matt Beard insists Liverpool Ladies will be going for the victory against Bristol on Sunday - despite the fact they only need a point to clinch the 2013 Women's Super League title.
The Halton Stadium will play host to one of the most exciting finishes to a women's title in years when both Liverpool or Bristol could end up as champions.
Kick-off is at 2pm BST and admission is just £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions. It is free for children U16 if they are accompanied by an adult, while Anfield season ticket holders have free admission on production of their ticket.
Beard's charges are two points clear at the top of the table and a point would be enough to secure the title, while Bristol have to win the game to pip the Reds to the crown.
A special press conference was organised at the club's first-team training ground on Thursday, where Beard was joined by key players Amanda Da Costa and Whitney Engen to preview Sunday's clash.
Asked by reporters on how he would be approaching the game knowing his team only require a point, Beard said he only has one thing on his mind.
"We will be going for the win," he told journalists at Melwood.
"I think it would be dangerous if we set-up not to get the three points. There is a lot at stake but we will be prepared and we will be going for the win.
"The players deserve the credit for getting us to this point. They are the ones who cross that white line and it has been a pleasure to watch at times.
"Our goal at the start of the season was to finish in the top half of the table and build for the second year, so for us to be where we are now is a good achievement.
"We are in this business to win trophies and win football matches, so I think it's important for me, the players and the club as well if can win the title.
"It's going to be an exciting game for both teams. We have already qualified for the Champions League so we can just go out and enjoy the game now and hopefully get the right result."
Beard was also quick to pay tribute to the support he and the ladies team have received from Brendan Rodgers and the football club as a whole.
He added: "The support from the football club has been fantastic. The manager has allowed me to come down and watch the first team train and we trained with them before the start of our season.
"There are great facilities at the Academy where we train and we have had a lot of help from people behind the scenes, which goes unnoticed sometimes, but it's a one-club mentality and it's fantastic with us all working together."
Ahead of the game, Beard will be keeping his fingers crossed that he has a fully fit squad to choose from with five of his squad away with England for a World Cup qualifier on Thursday night against Turkey at Portsmouth's Fratton Park.
He said: "We have had eight players away on international duty, so preparation has been a bit disjointed but hopefully everyone will be fine and we will regroup in training on Saturday and then be ready for the game on Sunday."
For defender Whitney Engen, winning the title would be the icing on the cake after making the move from the USA to Merseyside at the start of the year.
She was keen to highlight the fantastic team spirit the squad possesses.
Engen said: "I think that has been a really important factor, especially in women's football. We have spent a lot of time together as a team and have built up a strong bond.
"We work for each other and we believe in each other and it has been a lot of fun to experience that.
"I expected us to have a great season with the team we have put together and my expectations have been met.
"I knew this was a team that could compete for the title and that is something I wanted to be part of, and I have had a phenomenal time this year with Liverpool."
Midfielder Amanda Da Costa was also keen to pay tribute to leading scorer Natasha Dowie who has fired an impressive 19 goals in just 20 games following her move across Stanley Park from Everton.
She said: "Natasha has been amazing for this team and she just keeps on getting better and better.
"When we started the season, none of us knew each other and it was like starting all over again but we have gelled together and it has been an amazing season.
"It would mean the world to us to win the title. We have worked incredibly hard this season and it would be great if the supporters could come down and support us.
"We want to bring the Kop to the Halton Stadium."
