Four of Bill Shankly's legendary players will be on stage in October in a 100th anniversary edition of the show in tribute of the great man.

The Bill Shankly story premiered in 2006 and has since played in four countries, including Norway, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and many Merseyside venues.

The curtain goes up on The Bill Shankly Story at the Gladstone Theatre, Port Sunlight, Wirral on Friday, October 18 to celebrate this year's centenary of Shankly's birth in Glenbuck, Ayrshire.

Ian Callaghan, Liverpool's 857-match appearance record holder, Ian St John, Ron Yeats and Chris Lawler will join author and broadcaster John Keith and actor Steve Hazlehurst live on stage to tell the fascinating Shankly story in a unique style.

The compelling insight into Shankly by men who knew him well is accompanied by exclusive audio clips of the great Scot speaking and rolling images of the manager who revolutionised Liverpool during his period in charge from 1959 to 1974.

Callaghan said: "So many things the boss said and did are very relevant to football today and his influence has lived with all his players throughout our lives.

"He was so far ahead of his time in his training and coaching routines that it's amazing to think he was born a century ago. His concentration was always on using the ball in a team context, of giving each other options.

"I know that Brendan Rodgers is a disciple of passing football and that is part of the Liverpool tradition laid down by Shanks. Recently, I watched again film of our 1965 FA Cup final win over Leeds at Wembley and the way the ball was moved about, the quality of the passing, was tremendous.

"Our show captures the essence of Bill Shankly and we're delighted to tell his story to younger supporters as well as those who were around at the time."

Tickets for the show, at £16 for adults and £13 concessions, are available in person from the Gladstone Theatre box office Monday to Friday or by calling 0151 643 8757.
