A football tournament will be held to raise funds for the charity set up by the family of Liverpool's legendary manager Bill Shankly.

The Shankly Family Foundation are looking for seven-a-side teams to sign up for the competition at Cardinal Heenan High School on Saturday, October 12.

Founded in September 2013 by Bill's grandson Chris, the aim of the charity is to support grassroots football and young people.

It strives to ensure that as many young people can get access to top-class coaching and facilities as possible, to give them every opportunity to develop into the stars of tomorrow.

Meanwhile, grassroots football was something that was close to Shankly's heart, and he would quite often be seen kicking a ball around on the Barnfield Playing Fields, which has subsequently been renamed the Bill Shankly Playing Fields.

At the forthcoming tournament, participants will be able to pit their wits against staunch competition on the very school playing fields that were once home to the likes of Steven Gerrard and Scouse heavyweight boxer David Price.

If you want to compete, please register by emailing info@theshanklyfoundation.co.uk, detailing the name of your team and a name and contact number for your side.

Registration is £60 per team and all the money will go towards the fine work carried out by the Bill Shankly Foundation.
