Liverpool Ladies were crowned Women's Super League champions for the first time in their history after a 2-0 win over Bristol Academy at the Halton Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Matt Beard's side produced another highly-impressive display to see off the challenge of Bristol, who needed to win themselves to pip the Reds to the crown.

However, right from the off Liverpool took the game to their opponents and created some good openings.

After a sustained period of pressure, Beard's charges got the lead on 35 minutes when the lively Nicole Rolser was brought down and Swedish star Louise Fors fired home the resulting penalty.

Leading goalscorer Natasha Dowie had a great chance to make it 2-0 on 71 minutes but sent a header just wide of the post.

On 78 minutes Icelandic star Katrin Omarsdottir sealed the championship in style when she waltzed past a couple of defenders to fire home the decisive second.

Beard's side could have won by more goals in the end but this will be a day they will never forget.

They scored 46 goals in just 14 games and conceded just 19. They won 12 games and lost just two league games all season.
