Standard Chartered beat fundraising target
40 Standard Chartered employees recently took on a fundraising challenge of a lifetime – cycling from Liverpool to London in just three days to help raise money for the bank's global initiative, Seeing is Believing.
Setting off from the Shankly Gates at Anfield, Kop legend Robbie Fowler joined the employees on their first day's challenge, which saw them cycle over 100 miles in one day.
In total, the bike ride has so far raised over $103,597.25 (approx. £64,700) for the initiative, which raises money to help eliminate avoidable blindness across the world. Standard Chartered, an official partner of Liverpool FC, has committed to raising $100 million by 2020 for Seeing is Believing, with the bank matching all donations dollar for dollar until the target is met.
The 40 cyclists of mixed abilities, finished in London at the Standard Chartered's headquarters after an arduous journey that saw them ride across the breadth of the country, covering over 260 miles.
Eva Polykandrioti, assistant manager Europe CEO's office, commented: "It has been fantastic to see such a great team spirit from our employees, who have come together to complete an extremely difficult task to help raise money for others.
"Standard Chartered is committed to helping people across the world who suffer from avoidable blindness and this is a great example of how we're continuing to support Seeing is Believing."
