Jordan: Where we can still improve
Having been switched to a central role for the visit of Crystal Palace to Anfield on Saturday, Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson had the perfect vantage point to witness the creativity of those in front of him.
The Reds leapfrogged Arsenal to the summit of the Barclays Premier League with a 3-1 triumph against the Eagles, with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez inspirational spearheads for a second successive week.
Brendan Rodgers stressed the room for improvement post-match, however, and Henderson echoed the manager's assessment that more control is required to enhance the productive work being carried out in attack.
"It was good at times, especially in the first half," the No.14 told Liverpoolfc.com shortly after the final whistle.
"Going forward we were outstanding, the front players and attacking players were brilliant - flair and getting goals. Some of the stuff they do is fantastic; we see that every day in training so it's nothing new to us.
"Hopefully they can keep doing that and we can keep doing our job in supplying them and keeping clean sheets. I thought the defence was brilliant again today.
"There's a lot to improve on still, but there's a lot of confidence in the team at the same time.
"But obviously we can improve on controlling the game a little bit better and keeping the ball. That's what we'll look to improve on but the main thing is we got the three points.
"At the end of the day, we're getting some good results - which is the most important thing.
"We'll look to improve our performance, we'll do that in training; work hard and try to control the ball in possession. Hopefully we can do that and be even better.
"We've just got to keep going and doing what we've been doing, to be honest; keep making sure we get good results and trying to improve our performance.
"We'll do that by working hard in training and working on things that maybe we weren't so good at today and in the past. We'll look forward to the next game in a couple of weeks."
At his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Rodgers had sung the praises of Henderson at length, noting the 23-year-old's versatility and consistency on behalf of the Liverpool cause.
The Englishman reflected: "It means a lot. Since the manager has come to the club, he has helped me a lot with different parts of my game that I need to improve on, which I'm very thankful for.
"I need to repay that, keep working hard and keep improving. I'm enjoying playing football.
"I've been loving every minute of it and hopefully I can keep working hard in training and keep playing. I'm enjoying it."
Victory against Palace handed the Reds a one-point lead over the Gunners, who play West Brom later today, and Henderson was asked if he believes there is an increased competitiveness around the division this season.
"There are a lot of good teams - you have seen some shock results already and there will probably be more to come," he added.
"Hopefully we can be more consistent in our performances and results, and just keep fighting every way until the end of the season."
