'Why PL defences should be worried'
John Aldridge has added his name to the long list of admirers queuing up to heap praise on Liverpool's deadly duo, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.
Aldridge, who fired 63 goals in 104 games for the Reds, knows all about the intelligence and instinct required to forge a lethal strike partnership.
The Garston-born forward linked seamlessly with the likes of John Barnes and Peter Beardsley during his Anfield career.
He was at Anfield on Saturday to watch Sturridge and Suarez terrorise Crystal Palace - and afterwards Aldridge could not hide his excitement at the combination on display.
Writing in his Liverpool Echo column, Aldridge said: "Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are two clever lads who are also very gifted with the ball at their feet.
"They've hit it off straight away, but they are also still learning about each other's games.
"People talk about strikers' styles complementing each other - and that can be true - but at the highest levels like the Premier League you need strikers to be on the same intellectual wavelength, and Suarez and Sturridge clearly are.
"At Liverpool I forged a great partnership with Beardsley, who had an exceptional football brain. We just clicked straight from the off.
"At Oxford I played alongside a striker called Billy Hamilton who was also very bright on a football pitch. We were almost telepathic together.
"You need your teammates to have a good football brain if you're going to hit it off."
Since Suarez's return to the Liverpool side against Manchester United at Old Trafford in September, Sturridge and Suarez have played three games together.
In that time, the pair have fired five goals between them and linked effortlessly to devastating effect.
Aldridge believes that as the duo get more game time alongside one another, their link-up will only improve.
"The worrying thing for Premier League defences is that the more they learn about each other the better they are going to be as a partnership," said Aldridge.
"That might be terrifying for the rest of the Premier League, but it's great news for all Reds fans. They've got the nickname now, and it's thoroughly deserved.
"The SAS are looking like a proper, formidable strike partnership - and it is only going to get better and better.
"I had no doubts that Suarez and Sturridge would forge a lethal partnership, because they both have razor sharp football brains."
