Suarez and co face Argentina decider
Reds forward Luis Suarez played the full 90 minutes but could not prevent Uruguay from falling to a 1-0 defeat by Ecuador in World Cup qualifying on Friday night.
Jefferson Montero struck the only goal of the match on the half-hour mark, handing the home side all three points in Quito at the expense of Suarez and his compatriots.
The result leaves Uruguay in fifth place in the South American standings; La Celeste are at least guaranteed a play-off spot against Jordan, to be played over two legs in November.
However, they can still claim an automatic qualification berth if they beat Argentina in Montevideo on Tuesday evening and other results in the section help their cause.
