Simon eyes Belgian berth in Brazil
Simon Mignolet hopes to continue his impressive start to life at Liverpool - and by extension put himself in the frame to be Belgium's first choice at next year's World Cup in Brazil.
Mignolet watched from the subs' bench as his country played their final qualifier against Wales on Tuesday evening, having already comfortably qualified for the 2014 tournament.
Atletico Madrid's Thibaut Courtois has been manager Marc Wilmots' preferred choice between the sticks; however, Mignolet is determined to force his way back into contention.
"That's what I try to do - I want to play again, not only here but for Belgium," he told Liverpoolfc.com.
"My performances with Liverpool can only help me to get back into the team.
"I'll try to work hard and do my best to make sure that when the World Cup comes, I'll be there.
"We've managed to get ourselves back in the World Cup - it's been 12 years since Belgium last qualified for it.
"So we're very pleased, not only for the team but for the fans back in Belgium, who can look forward to a summer in Brazil."
The 25-year-old was presented with the Standard Chartered Player of the Month award for September at Melwood on Thursday, which was testament to his fine start in Liverpool colours.
His reflex saves have been an important factor behind the Reds winning five out of seven games in the Barclays Premier League to go joint-top of the table.
During that time, the 'keeper has even had to adjust to a new formation after Brendan Rodgers introduced a 3-5-2 system for the two games against Sunderland and Crystal Palace.
"The system is something you have to adapt to in a training session, but every professional footballer is able to do that," explained Mignolet.
"If you play at a certain level, you have to make sure that you can play every style of football. We work hard in training to make sure that the back four or the back three are all very organised.
"We want to take every game as it comes and try to win every game. We don't really want to look ahead too far. We want to win the next game and at the end, we'll see where we stand."
