Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson should definitely be on the plane to the World Cup with England next summer.

Roy Hodgson's Three Lions booked their spot in Brazil with back-to-back wins over Montenegro and Poland at Wembley, with the Reds' Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge crucial contributors.

Henderson has not been used by his country since travelling to Euro 2012 almost 18 months ago - a situation his club manager insists should change.

"I think there is a great opportunity there for Jordan," the Northern Irishman told the Liverpool Echo.

"I look at Jordan and I think he's absolutely perfect for the World Cup squad. Firstly, in terms of the performance level he has shown so far this season.

"But also because when you go to a World Cup you are taking a squad with you. You need players who are going to be flexible and can play well in a number of positions and I am sure Roy Hodgson knows that.

"We have seen it already this season when he has played as a wing-back, as a wide midfield player in a 4-2-3-1 and as a central midfield player. Jordan plays all those positions really well.

"His best position in the longer term for me will be central in the corridor making runs forward. He's a player I've been really impressed with and above many other players he should be in that squad."
