'How to beat Baggies? Attack with pace'
Baggies fan Ben Ruhrmund provides the view from the Hawthorns ahead of today's game - and he explains why Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez should fancy their chances against the West Brom defence.
What's your verdict on West Brom's season so far?
After a worrying start we've been really good since transfer deadline day and it's no coincidence that this was around the time we brought in three players who have all made a big impact. Morgan Amalfitano, Stephane Sessegnon and Victor Anichebe have all given us a threat going forward where previously we had looked a little one-paced and predictable.
How is Steve Clarke doing after his first full season in charge?
I think he is doing a very good job. Although we spent a bit on the players mentioned previously, he has generally had to produce results with loan players or free transfers - mind you, Romelu Lukaku wasn't a bad player - which makes it difficult to compete in the Premier League. That we finished eighth last season bears testament to the job he has done and the win at Old Trafford indicates we can continue in the same vein. I'm very pleased to have him.
How do you feel going into the game after back-to-back league wins over the Reds at Anfield?
Ha! I didn't expect you to mention that! I suppose it will mean that we go to Anfield without fear, but I think a third straight win there may be asking a bit much and I'm wary that you owe us one. Mind you, after our early seasons in the top flight, you may have used up all of your goal quota - it seemed to be five or six every game!
How will West Brom approach the game on Saturday?
I would expect us to set up similar to the Man United game. We will be organised but positive and try to use our pace going forward.
Who should we keep an eye out for in your side?
Amalfitano has been a revelation. To come from the reserves at Marseille and then score the brilliant goal he did against Man United was amazing. His delivery from set-plays is excellent and he has two good feet. Sessegnon is exciting to watch, direct and quick. He always offers a threat although the finishing may need a little work, looking at the missed chances against Stoke. But look out for Saido Berahino, who has been on the radar at Albion for a long time but is now starting to show the rumours were true.
If you were Brendan Rodgers, you would instruct your players to...
Attack with pace. Our defence has been tremendous this year and any side who tries to be aerial or direct has been snuffed out by the warriors G-Mac and Jonas Olsson but they are both susceptible to people running at them. Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge will undoubtedly fancy their chances.
Where does Anfield rank on your list of favourite away trips?
Right up there. I like the grounds that are a little different from the flat-pack ones that have sprung up over the last 20 years. It could do with a bit more space in the concourse, but you are generally going to get a good atmosphere. Newcastle is another big favourite as well.
Who is the one Liverpool player you'd like to see in the Baggies' starting XI?
Suarez, without question one of the top three players in the league.
Prediction?
Going to go with 2-2. A draw would be a great result and keep our mini-unbeaten run going.
