'Simon can achieve World Cup dream'
John Achterberg firmly believes Simon Mignolet has what it takes to establish himself as Belgium's No.1 goalkeeper for next summer's World Cup in Brazil.
Liverpool's custodian faces a battle with Atletico Madrid's on-loan Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois to be first choice for Marc Wilmot's side, but the Reds goalkeeping coach insists Mignolet would not let his country down if given the opportunity.
"I think he is definitely in with a shout to be the No.1 for Belgium, but it's a hard battle he has to fight really," Achterberg told Liverpoolfc.com.
"I do think Simon should have a fair chance to become the No.1 because if they want to have a chance to win something, he would be a good addition to their team.
"First of all they need to give him a fair chance. He is proving here week-in, week-out he that he is definitely up there with the best, so it's up to the Belgium manager to give him that chance."
Mignolet has made a fine start to his Liverpool career and his form was rewarded with him picking up the Standard Chartered Liverpool Player of the Month award for September.
"He has made a good start," added Achterberg.
"Since he has been here he has been really focused and keen to play well in every game. His form has been good and long may it continue.
"When he first arrived and played in the friendlies we spoke with him about a few things and tried to help him with about the way we play, but he picks up things very quickly and he's very keen to improve and work hard at his game."
