Securing a return to the Barclays Premier League top four and Champions League football is the minimum aim for Liverpool this season, according to Spanish forward Iago Aspas.

Although currently on the sidelines with a thigh problem, the No.9 has watched the Reds consolidate their second-place position in the standings during the past month.

Having had significant time to study his teammates on a daily basis since joining the club last summer, the 26-year-old has been filled with confidence in those around him.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "I think we should be aiming to finish in the top four - I think it is the minimum for this club.

"The squad is very good; you can see that when you consider it player by player.

"My ambition is to play as many times as possible and to try to do it in the best possible way to finish in the top four."

Aspas, who has played half-a-dozen matches for the Reds, has targeted a return to competitive action in the coming weeks after being ruled out in mid-October.

But, in addition to his ongoing rehabilitation, how has the former Celta Vigo goal-getter been using his spare time to settle into life on Merseyside?

"Watching football games, because I am mad about football, and playing video games on the internet with my friends," the striker responded.

"It is very quiet and I like a quiet life very much. I am relaxed and happy; I spend almost all the time at home with my girlfriend, that's why it's easier.

"Life is not very different to my place because it rained there too, even though it was not as cold.

"I am learning the language little by little, particularly by listening to it here.

"It is a little bit more difficult here because of the Scouse accent, but I will learn little by little."

Aspas' adaptation has been aided by Brendan Rodgers' ability to speak fluent Spanish, which the manager uses to instruct his second summer signing.

He said: "When I speak with him I speak in Spanish. We can speak a few words I understand in English, but when we speak seriously we speak Spanish."
