Hendo's confidence in Allen comeback
Jordan Henderson has backed midfield colleague Joe Allen to recover from his unfortunate miss in last weekend's Merseyside derby by proving his Barclays Premier League class during the 2013-14 campaign.
With an hour on the clock and Liverpool holding a 2-1 advantage at Goodison Park six days ago, a penetrating Luis Suarez dribble presented Allen with a one-on-one opportunity to beat Tim Howard.
The Welshman, however, diverted his attempt wide - but Henderson has no doubt that his teammate is capable of producing a quick and positive response to his disappointment.
"It was just one of those things - we've all done things like that before," the Reds' No.14 told the Liverpool Echo.
"It was a big chance in the game but that's football. You just have to deal with it and move on and I'm sure Joe has already done that.
"You always get ups and downs in football. There is nothing you can do about what's gone on - you just have to forget about it.
"The main thing is that he got himself in there and he's got to keep getting into those kind of positions.
"Joe is a top player. He has showed that since he's come to Liverpool. In some of the games he's been brilliant. Injuries have knocked him off his rhythm but he's back fit now and has a lot to offer.
"He has proved himself to be a very good player in the Premier League and when he goes away with Wales he always does very well. I'm sure we will see a lot more of him this season."
Brendan Rodgers' team secured a late 3-3 draw against rivals Everton to consolidate their second-place position in the early Premier League standings.
Having had almost a week to reflect on a frenetic encounter, Henderson - who has never tasted defeat in contests with the Blues - considers a point to have been a fair result.
He added: "Obviously there were a lot of ups and downs against Everton. It was pretty mad at times but I think overall both sides played well.
"We knew that they would come out in the second half and have a right go. We coped alright with that.
"They had chances but we also had chances to put the game to bed. It was end to end. I don't think the outcome was harsh on either team. A point was probably fair."
