Steven Gerrard paid a special visit to Zoe's Place Baby Hospice in Liverpool on Monday to hand over a cheque for £10,000 on behalf of the skipper's SG Foundation.

Zoe's Place provides home-from-home environments for babies and infants, who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

As the only baby-specific hospice in the UK, it offers comforting end-of-life care completely free of charge as well as ongoing support to families.

Zoe's Place is a charity which is close to Gerrard's heart - and he was more than happy to spend quality time with children and their families when he stopped by to hand over a cheque.

"There are sadly so many children and hospices that are in need of help," Gerrard told Liverpoolfc.com. "I've visited many over the years, they are all amazing places and I hope that we can help many more in the future."

When Gerrard celebrated his testimonial in August this year, a company called Softplay Direct donated a custom-made soft play-area, which the captain donated to Zoe's Place.

The area has been designed to provide a fun and safe environment where the children and their brothers and sisters can play - and will hopefully be ready for use by early next year.
