84-year-old scoops dream LFC prize
An 84-year-old Liverpool supporter has had his dream come true by winning two tickets to every Reds home game in the second half of the season through an LFC Membership Dream Draw.
Wilf Johnstone, from Allerton in South Liverpool, was selected at random to scoop the enviable prize and plans to take his teenage granddaughter alongside him to each fixture at Anfield.
More than 70 years have passed since Wilf first watched a match at Liverpool's home ground, in 1942, before becoming a season ticket holder for more than three decades.
After being emotionally affected by the events at Hillsborough in 1989, the life-long fan has never returned to Anfield but has regretted giving up his season ticket ever since.
His teenage granddaughter, Abbie, initially persuaded Wilf to become an Official LFC Member and the pair are naturally delighted by the chance to see their heroes in action.
Wilf commented: "I joined the Membership scheme a few years ago and didn't realise there was a draw like this, so when I found out it was a really big surprise. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"I phoned Abbie up straightaway and she was jumping around the house. She was in hysterics. She couldn't believe it. It's the best Christmas present we could have wished for."
