Agger and Gerrard fitness report
Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on the fitness of Steven Gerrard after the Liverpool captain was forced to leave the action as the Reds jumped to second in the Barclays Premier League by beating West Ham United 4-1.
The 33-year-old was substituted and replaced by Lucas Leiva in the 56th minute at Anfield, with a hamstring problem stopping the skipper from continuing against the Londoners on Saturday.
"We just need to assess that in the next day or so," the manager explained at his post-match press conference.
"It was definitely his hamstring. Hopefully it's just a strain and we'll see where we're at in the next 48 hours."
The Northern Irishman was also quizzed by reporters on the absence of vice-captain Daniel Agger, who was missing from the Liverpool squad due to illness, with Mamadou Sakho deputising.
Rodgers added: "Daniel felt sick this morning when we arrived at the training ground. But a more than capable replacement came in, who I thought was excellent.
"I thought Sakho looked strong and aggressive and he looked like he really wanted to take his opportunity. He did that. I thought he and Skrtel were both excellent."
