Brendan Rodgers has explained how Liverpool will approach the upcoming transfer window, with new recruits that can improve his team the priority for the Northern Irishman in January.

Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge were the manager's two signings in his first winter transfer window with the Reds, with both proving huge successes since arriving at Anfield 12 months ago.

On Friday, Rodgers reiterated his ambition to find 'the right type of player' to further enhance a side which sits second in the Barclays Premier League before a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

"It's not just about getting them, it's what's available that can improve you," the boss told reporters at his pre-match press conference at Melwood today.

"Everyone knows that January is a difficult window. We did a remarkable piece of business last January in Coutinho and Sturridge.

"What I know is that if there is a player or players out there that will improve our team, I know the owners will support that. They have been outstanding for me.

"It's just on the availability of the right type of player, and that has to be a player than can come into the team and improve us."
