Several players from the club's Academy recently continued their ongoing positive work in the community with a first-ever visit to Whiston Hospital, to spread cheer ahead of Christmas.

Daniel Cleary, Ryan Kent, Sheyi Ojo, Kristof Polgar and Connor Randall were the quintet of young players in attendance, bringing a smile to the faces of those residing at the Prescot complex.

The trip followed in the footsteps of the Reds' first team, as well as U21 and U18 sides, conducting their annual visits to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in West Derby last week.

More than 6,000 young people are admitted to the children's wards at Whiston Hospital every year, and the Academy representatives raised spirits at a tough time for patients and their families.

Sally Duce, directorate manager/lead nurse of the Children's and Young People's department, said: "The children and young people were really excited to see their local football heroes and I'm sure that many of the children's families and the staff enjoyed the visit too.

"It's extremely kind of the players to visit and spend time with those in hospital over the festive period. We all wish the players a Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year."
