The coaching staff at Melwood are not required to instil much motivation in Luis Suarez, as the prolific Uruguayan prepares for every single match believing he can perform better than anyone else.

So far in 2013-14, that mentality has been borne out in competitive action; in 11 Barclays Premier League appearances this season, the Reds' No.7 has notched a remarkable 17 goals.

Assistant manager Colin Pascoe has shed light on how the 26-year-old approaches Liverpool fixtures, revealing that a unique combination of enthusiasm, belief and responsibility inspire such incredible displays.

The Welshman explained to Liverpoolfc.com: "Luis is just an unbelievable player. He is always smiling, he enjoys his football and that rubs off on the other players.

"It's great to watch him every day in training and when it comes to the matches he believes he is going to be the best player on the pitch. He's right up there with the Messis and Ronaldos of his era.

"He has got massive belief in his ability and even on matchdays he goes out there, he knows what he wants and as you can see with the goals he has recently scored they have just been unbelievable.

"On matchdays he likes responsibility, off the ball, set-plays or corners, he knows where he is supposed to be and he revels in it."

Liverpool welcome Cardiff City to Anfield this Saturday ahead of mouthwatering clashes with close rivals Manchester City and Chelsea - both away from home.

The Reds will continue to be without the likes of Jose Enrique, captain Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge, but Pascoe considers the hectic schedule an opportunity for the squad to flex its muscles.

He added: "It's always been about the squad and being ready for your chance.

"That's the way football is because you get injuries, you get suspensions and ones who haven't played recently know that when they are called upon they need to be ready.

"There are a lot of games around Christmas and you can't keep playing the same team especially with only a couple of days in between each game, and it's very important to use the squad."
