Rodgers: We won't repeat KC errors
Brendan Rodgers is confident Liverpool can bounce back to form against Hull City on New Year's Day – and believes there will be no repeat of the errors that cost them so dearly the last time they faced the Tigers.
The Reds slipped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at the KC Stadium earlier this month - a game in which the manager concedes his team were not at their best.
However, Rodgers believes Liverpool are ready to make amends for their performance that day against a Hull side who'll travel to Anfield on the back of an emphatic 6-0 thrashing of Fulham on Saturday.
The boss told a pre-match press conference at Melwood: "It's very simple - we are at home and we expect to win.
"We know it's going to be like any other game at this level; a very tough game. They're coming off the back of a victory that doesn't happen too often when you're in the Premier League, especially when it's 0-0 at half-time. It was a terrific result.
"We were very disappointed in our performance level there. We were nowhere near the standard we would expect, but you have to give credit to Hull - they exposed that on the day.
"But we aim to make sure that no matter what squad or team we put out, we don't make the same mistakes again because home games are vitally important for us."
Hull will head into 2014 in 10th position in the Barclays Premier League table having garnered 23 points in the first half of the season.
Rodgers admits he's been impressed by what he's witnessed from Steve Bruce's men.
He added: "I think they've done exceptionally well. They're a team that's coming up.
"They've mixed their systems a couple of times when I've seen them; I think they play a 3-5-2 system very, very well in how they operate and how it functions. Everyone knows their job and the midfield three work very hard.
"They've got [Tom] Huddlestone, who is an outstanding footballer and has great variety and range in his pass. They've got Danny Graham, who I had [at Swansea], and when he gets a goal, he normally gets you a run of goals.
"Organisationally they've been very, very good. They've been hard to beat and have made their home ground a real fortress, and it's been difficult for any team going there to get a result. When you have that in your first season, it really helps you.
"We're under no illusion, it's going to be a difficult game, but at Anfield with the crowd - who will also recognise we need their support even more so in this period - I'm sure they'll really get behind us to put on another good performance and result."
