Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has tipped his old club to capitalise on a lack of European football in 2013-14 by lifting an eighth FA Cup at the end of the season.

Brendan Rodgers' team kick off their quest on Sunday with a revenge mission against Oldham Athletic, the side who eliminated the Reds at the fourth-round stage last year.

Having already been knocked out of the Capital One Cup and with no continental participation for the club, Liverpool are free to battle on two fronts - the Barclays Premier League and FA Cup.

That scenario could provide Rodgers and his players with an advantage according to Carragher, who believes that the Reds have 'the weapons' to reach Wembley.

"Teams who do not have Europe on their schedule, such as Everton and Newcastle, will be looking to target this trophy," the 35-year-old wrote in his latest Daily Mail column.

"But Liverpool are enjoying a great season and have the weapons to beat anyone on their day."
